In honor of Labor Day and in participation with Rocks in My Dryer & We Are THAT Family, I'm sharing the hardest work I've ever done!
How long were your labors?
Kid #1, 23 hours
Kid #2, 19 hours
How did you know you were in labor?
Kid #1, 7 days early, induced due to "possible large size" and impending vacation of the Dr. to Hilton Head
Kid #2, 5 days early, induced because I said so & then Gavin picked the date ( I should mention here, since most of you might not know- I was due on the exact same day- four years apart- which is why him picking the day is important. I did not let him pick his birthday, though he tried. I explain this over in their bios on the left. So, if you are keeping up with the math- my kids have birthdays 2 days apart (should have been 1 day- but you know, they take a LONG time to get here)
Where did you deliver?
Um, the hospital- where the doctors and the drugs are...
Drugs?
Yes, see above.
C-section?
Nope, but I bet I had more stitches. Yeh, don't ask. I'm not even kidding either.
Who delivered?
Kid #1- My doctor, Dr. Harder, although it took so long for Gav to get here, he just almost didn't make his flight to Hilton Head. I am sure he was dog tired all day from that call he got about 4:15 am to come on in and deliver! None of the 3 epidurals worked and it was a nightmare. Truly. I mean, there is a reason there is a 4 year gap in between! *8lbs 4oz, 21 in
Kid #2- My doctor, Dr. Williamson. Gray was an easier delivery. But still, the epidurals did not work. Some of the other drugs we tried worked better. She was bigger though. *9lbs 1oz, 20 in- and went straight to NICU for very low blood sugar. I was hemorrhaging though, and would later go into acute congestive heart failure and need 2 blood transfusions. SO, a.) this is why I only have 2 children, and b.) this is why they better REALLY appreciate the LABOR!

Oh my gosh! OUCH on the first and how scary on the second!
(I'm also a Blissfully Domestic contributor! Gonna go look for you...)
I didn't realize how similar our labors were! 22.5 hours, lots of hemmoraghing (on multiple occasions post-birth) and 2 blood transfusions to get Miss Addison here and Mama healthy. All totally worth it though! 9lbs 10oz, 21 3/4" = big baby!
Ha! I have a Gavin (will be 8 in Nov.) and my oldest daughter's name is Aubrey.
Wow, crazy stories.
I'm so glad I found this Labor Day event hosted by Rocks in My Dryer! I am due in exactly 4 weeks, so I'm glad to read all these labor stories! :) Thanks for sharing!!
Hey mama!
I just found your site as a fellow BD contributor. :O) I did this meme today, too, from one of my gal pal's blogs and was glad - but sad for you, too! - to see another lady with 23 hours worth of labor. BUT, your 19 hours with the second was less...I'm seriously praying that my little one on-the-way decides to book it and be born quickly. ;o) Grace's (my 23 hour labor) was nutso.
Hope you guys had a blessed labor day - and your mexican restaurant pics have me HUNGRY! :o)
