MM: Slow Cooker Link Up

Today at theRHOK.com, Mrs. Priss wants some new crock pot or "slow cooker" recipes. So head over and link up, and find some new stuff to make. I might make a goal to use my crock pot every night one week! Heh. Also, I might need to buy a new one. This May it will turn 15 years old, like my marriage. Is that a long life for one??  (The crock pot, not the marriage. Ha!)

So here you go:

POTATO SOUP
Ingredients

6-8 pounds potatoes cubed (I leave the peel on, as it is nutritous. But clean well, obviously)
1 small onion, chopped (or, a cup of the frozen diced ones that I buy bc I HATE chopping onions. I cry the ugly cry. It isn't pretty)
2 tablespoons butter (you know, or more. If you want)
2 cubes chicken bouillon
2 tablespoons dried parsley
6 cups water
2 cups milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Directions

Place the potatoes, onion, butter, chicken bouillon cubes, parsley and water into a slow cooker. Set on low and let cook for 6 to 8 hours.
At least half an hour before serving, stir together the milk and flour until no lumps remain, and mix into the soup. Cook for 30 minutes or until the soup is thickened.

Also, add in a 1/2 cup of or so of sour cream. Top with shredded cheese and fresh bacon bits to serve!

Okie Road Trip

Today it's Mcklinky Monday at theRHOK.com and it's about trips on a tankful.  So I pulled out an oldie, because I already wrote about it, and, well, I'm lazy why be redundant.
Go on over and link up!

Today we went on a road trip- me, the kids, the dog and my mom (aka, GiGi). The kids had SO much fun- they are already asking to go again. We went to Spavinaw State Park and Little Blue State Park- both over by Grand Lake. Both the creeks have clear water -and the water at Little Blue is also super cold (great for an almost triple digit day!). Both these places are great day trips- and we had a picnic lunch and the dog even somewhat enjoyed himself too. I took a ton of photos- more than are bloggable and you can view them BY CLICKING HERE.

This shot above was taken using my green filter. There are several shots like this in the album, and a few with the blue filter, too. (If you are wondering how or why they look like this.)

Why is it so hard to get 2 children to look nice in the same picture?

First Lasts

Here I am again typing things I never thought I'd write. This month for me is a horrendous flood of horribleness. I am admittedly doing a really bad job at holding it together, too. If you know me, then you should just understand why I am what I am right now.

You see, this is the month of  first lasts.

Last year....

On February 1st it was my mom's last birthday. The last one she was alive. The last thing I gave her were monogrammed pillow covers. The last birthday meal we had was at Tokyo Garden. She had teryaki chicken. I always thought that was so silly to order at a Japanese steakhouse.

February 8th was the last birthday my mom celebrated with my grandma. Grandma's birthday always 1 week later made it easy to remember.

February 9th was the last day my mom was in her house. The house my parents worked hard for to build for us. The house she decorated perfectly. I was in the house too, that day. I knew she didn't feel well. I should have done more to help her. I should have made her let me take her to the ER then.

February 10th was the last day my mom didn't know she had cancer.

February 14th was the last day my children saw my mother alive. 2010 Valentine cards are the last signed by her, as she had them all ready for them to mail, even though she felt bad. She always mailed them cards for every holiday no matter what.

February 15th was the last night my mom was coherent.

February 16th was the last day she breathed on her own.

February 22nd was the last time I felt hopeful she would be fine. She suffered full cardiac arrest that day.

February 24th was the last time I stayed all night with her in ICU. The last night I played George Straight for her and voice clips of the kids to her from my ipod.

February 25th, was her last breath. The last day that my normal ceased to exist totally and completely. The last time the 25th would just be my little sister's birthday. The last day as life as I knew it.

The beginning of first lasts.

Perfect Pairings: A new one for me!

1 Corinthians 13:4–8a

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails ...

Happy Valentine's Day!
